Beginnings and Endings…

It’s the end of my second year teaching. During an afternoon training this week, I reflected on the fact that this year has been much more difficult for me than last. I realize this is due to several factors including but not limited to rougher kids, being married, pure laziness, and a necessary paradigm shift in my priorities. In addition to these, I think that one significant difference is that I ceased to journal or reflect on much of anything that has happened this year. Instead, I come home and rant and rave to my family and friends. So, in search of new beginnings through the excitement that comes at the end of one school year and the beginning of the next, I have decided to attempt to blog in an effort to sift through the millions of thoughts that run through my mind at the end of each period, day, week and grading period in order to become both a better teacher and a healthier person. If things written herein offend, interest, or perplex you, please, feel free to dialog with me about the crazy life of a teacher.

  2. Welcome to the wonderful world of blogging. You will find that it is better to talk in this forum than to your family and friends. At least it was for me, b/c they just don’t get it AND they get tired of hearing about it. You can type on here as much as you want for as long as you want and if people get tired of your drama , they quit reading and you never know–this much better than folks hanging up on you or saying can’t you find something else to talk about. My mom was especially guilty of that. She doesn’t even read my blog b/c she just doesn’t get it. Teaching is a hard job that sometimes seems to just take over your life.

BTW, Thank you for visiting my blog. I don’t get angry anymore (happended a lot during my first year of teaching) about student’s responses–I only feel sorry for them or sad for them. I let them go to the administrators and complain. They don’t have much to complain about b/c my class is NOT hard and I teach them!!! EVERYDAY. I help them, EVERYDAY!!! For the most part, my administrators support me b/c they know that I help my kids if they need or deserve it. As a matter of fact, they and the guidance counselors put a lot of SPED kids in my classes b/c they know that they can succeed there. So, its easy not to get angry.

Also, you must pray for your children. Really pray for them. Pray that the Lord equips you with what you need to teach them. Pray that they will have responsive hearts and minds. The less I pray the more trouble I have in my classroom and thats the honest to goodness truth. The more I pray, the more I feel equipped to handle them or at least more supported in my teaching.

    Happy Blogging!
